Visa Conditions

 VISA

A visa is a permission of entry into Iran for a limited period of time, issued by embassies and consulates general of the Islamic Republic of Iran abroad for foreign nationals after receiving the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Everyone needs a visa to visit Iran. Unless you're from Slovenia, Macedonia, Turkey or Japan. The best advice is to apply for a visa before you leave home. However, once you're in - getting an extension inside Iran is often easier than getting any sort of visa outside the country.

Entry Visas
Entry Visas (single, double or multiple) are permissions issued for foreign experts and businessmen who wish to travel to Iran for a limited period of time for economic, commercial, cultural and industrial purposes.

Two copies of completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least six months
3 recent photos (size 3´4)
payment of visa fees
A return envelope with applicants’ addresses and adequate prepaid postages to cover the cost of registered mails.
An interview, if necessary
 
Entry or Transit Visa for Drivers Carrying Cargoes
This visa will be issued for foreign drivers carrying cargoes to Iran or to other countries. For these cases, it is necessary to coordinate in advance with Diplomatic Missions of the Islamic Republic of Iran abroad. 
Documents and procedures required:
two copies of completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least 6 months
3 Recent photos (size 3´4)
Valid visa for destinations in third country/countries for drivers carrying cargoes
Payment of visa fees
A return envelope with applicants’ addresses and adequate prepaid postages to cover the cost of registered mails.
An interview, if necessary.
 
Work Permit Visas
For foreign nationals who intend to work. This visa will be issued work permits Iranian employers concerned must obtain Iran. In the relevant authorities. In advance from.
Documents and procedures required:
Two completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least 6 months
3 Recent photos (size 3´4)
Payment of visa fees
A return envelope with applicants’ addresses and adequate prepaid postages to cover the cost of registered mails
An interview, if necessary
 
Airport Entry or Transit Visa
An Airport Visa may be issued at the Mehrabad Airport for 72 hours for businessmen.
An Airport Transit Visa may be issued for 48 hours to applicants who intend to transit through Iran.
Documents and procedures required:
A visa application form to be completed at Mehrabad Airport
A passport valid for at least 6 months
2 recent photos (size 3´4)
Payment of visa fees
Confirmed tickets to fly to third countries for the applicants of 48 hour transit visas
Confirmed tickets to fly to third countries for the applicants of 72 hour visa and a written request by Iranian sponsors must be sent to the Mehrabad Airport Branch of the Passport and Visa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
 
Pilgrimage Visa
A pilgrimage visa is issued for foreign Muslim pilgrims to visit sacred sites and shrines in Iran.
Documents and procedures required:
Two completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least 6 months
3 recent photos (size 3´4)
Payment of visa fees
A return envelope with applicants` addresses and adequate prepaid postages to cover the cost of registered mails.
An interview, if necessary

            
Tourist Visa
A tourist visa is issued for foreign nationals who are interested in traveling to Iran individually or collectively to visit Iran or their relatives.
Documents and procedures required:
Two completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least 6 months
3 recent photos (size 3´4)
Payment of visa fees
Applicants must also submit two-way tickets and an evidence of hotel reservation
A return envelope with applicants` addresses and adequate prepaid postages to cover the cost of registered mails
An interview, if necessary
 
Transit Visas
A transit visa is issued for a limited period of time for foreigners who intend to pass through Iran to a third country.
Required documents:
Two completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least 6 months
3 recent photos (size 3´4)
An obtained visa for a third country
Confirmed air tickets for individuals who travel by air
Payment of visa fees
A return envelope with applicants’ addresses and adequate prepaid postages to cover the cost of registered mails
An interview, if necessary
 
Entry Visa for Free Trade and Industrial Areas of Iran
This visa is issued for a two-week stay at the ports of entry to Free Trade and Industrial Areas of Iran (Kish Island), and may be extended up to six months at the request of the authorities of these areas.
Note:
Foreign nationals who intend to travel to other parts of the country should submit their applications to the office of the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the area. These applications shall be reviewed and visas shall be issued, if approved, within 48 hours.

Student Visa
A student visa is issued for foreign nationals who intend to study in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Admission to accredited educational centers
An interview, if necessary
 
Press Visa
A press visa is issued for journalists and representatives of foreign media and the press who intend to travel to Iran for purposes relating to their professions for a specific period.
Documents and procedures required:
Two completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least six months
Two recent photos (size 3´4)
Payment of visa fees
An interview, if necessary
 
Diplomatic and Service Visa
This visa is issued for the holders of diplomatic and service passports who intend to travel to Iran.
Documents and procedures required:
An official note verbal issued by the relevant Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Two completed visa application forms
A passport valid for at least 6 months
Two recent photos (size 3´4)
Payment of visa fees, if necessary
 
Extension of Visa
Entry, Tourist and Pilgrimage Visas
Extension of entry, tourist and pilgrimage visas are made by Aliens’ Affairs Bureau of Law Enforcement Forces on the basis of plausible reasons and upon the approval of the said Bureau.
 
Diplomatic and Service Visa
Diplomatic and service visas shall be extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the request of relevant foreign diplomatic missions in Tehran.
 
Work Permit Visa
Work permit visa shall be extended by Aliens’ Affairs Bureau of Law Enforcement Forces in coordination with the Department of Aliens’ Employment of the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs at the request of the Iranian employers of the applicants.
 
Residence Permit
Residence permits of foreign nationals in Iran are divided into two categories:
Permanent residence permits
Temporary residence permits. A permanent residence permit is issued for a foreigner who has chosen territory of Iran as its legal place of domicile, otherwise the residence permit of a foreign national is considered as temporary. Permanent and temporary residence permits shall be issued by Aliens’ Affairs Bureau of Law Enforcement Forces some eight days after the arrival of foreign nationals in Iran.
Foreign nationals are not allowed to stay in Iran more than the time permitted. However, in case of overstaying, offenders shall be treated in accordance with the regulations concerned. Temporary and permanent residence permits may be renewed and extended.
An exit permit visa for foreign national is also issued by the aforesaid Bureau.
