Iran Air, 40 years of History, 55 years of
Experience
IranAir by having almost half a century
experience as the major aviation corporate has been serving
Iranians and is discharging of duty by transporting passengers,
cargo and mails in domestic and international routes according to
universal standards. For a national corporate there is no
privilege higher than serving the people who have been always
cooperative, collaborative and supportive.
Today, in spite of many restrictions due to sanction, IranAir with
a 42-year history, 57 years of experience by using the present
potentialities has taken successful steps in the field of
qualitative improvements of flight services and fulfilling the
customers' needs in order to expand its operation system. In a
short span with a fleet of 17 aircrafts which were mostly DC3s,
IranAir had managed to cover many domestic and international
routes including the major cities of the Middle East.
In 2002, IranAir flew to 36 international and 21 domestic routes
(including Tehran). In the same year, IranAir and its subsidiary
company, IranAir Tours, transported 6 million and 48 thousand
passengers on domestic routes ( with the passenger load factor of
84.9%), while 1.5 million passengers were transported by
international flights (The passenger load factor was 61.7%).
In 2002, IranAir staffs were 8887 of which 1198 were cabin crews,
1732 were engineers and maintenance experts, 885 were working in
commercial departments and the remaining 1900 personals were at
Airport or other flight services.

1946 A
group of Iranian businessmen formed the Iranian Airways
Company, which operated domestic and regional freights, as
well as weekly fright services to Europe. It fleet
consisted of Dc-3's, Dc-4's and Viscounts. |

1954 A
second private airline was formed, Persian Air Services.
Initially it operated only freight services to Europe, but
in 1960 it commenced passenger services to several
European destinations using leased equipment. |

1962 The
two private airlines were merged and Iran Air was formed
as a public sector venture by acquiring the merged assets
and liabilities of the two predecessor companies. It was
formally called Iran National Airlines. |

1964 Iran

1965 Iran
Air's first Boeing 727-100 jet aircraft was introduced in
European services. |
| 1968Iran
Air's fleet consisted of 4 Boeing 727-100 plus the older
generation of piston- engine aircraft. |
| 1971 The
first of four Boeing 737 was added to the fleet. |
| 1974The
first of five Boeing 727-200 was added to the fleet. |

1976 Boeing
747's were introduced to the fleet and Iran Air stretched
its wings still further to the Far East and distant west. |

1980 The
first of six new Airbus 300-B2K was added to the fleet. |
| 1981 Iran
Air's formal name was changed to The Airline of the
Islamic Republic of Iran. Carried 1.7 million passengers
in this year. |

1990 The
first of six Fokker-100 was added to the fleet. Five more
joined the fleet later. |
| 1992 Iran
Air Tours, which was a subsidiary company of Iran Air,
operating tours, started its operation as an airline using
leased aircraft. |

1994 2
new Airbus 300-600 were added to the fleet. |

2001 One
Airbus 310-300 and 5 Airbus 310-200 were added to the
fleet. Iran Air is still growing.
Together with Iran Air Tours carried 7.9 million
passengers in this year. |
